So it's been about a week since we left Cape Town, and Pura Vida is making slow progress on our way to St Helena. One of the reasons we are slow is that we are overweight, according to Captain Steve. Guess we bought too much of that delicious South African wine. It looks like we'll arrive at St Helena on Monday morning, which is a day or two longer than we'd hoped to be there. You've probably also noticed that I haven't posted anything in a week. The sea state has had significant swells, giving me persistent, underlying motion sickness I can't shake. I guess six years in the Navy didn't inoculate me against motion sickness. It's not enough to make me vomit, but it's enough to create a low-level nausea combined with the motion that makes it difficult to be on my laptop for longer than 10 minutes. The swells have gotten smaller, which I hope will continue, so I should be able to post more in the coming days.
The original plan was for me to be on Pura Vida all the way to Grenada, but that won't happen due to the delays at Cape Town, combined with the slow progress at sea. We were targeting to arrive at Grenada on Christmas Day, but now we are hoping to be at Fernando de Noronha by the 21st, but even this revised timeframe is uncertain. I booked a flight leaving Fernando on the 23rd, arriving in Texas on Christmas Eve, but that could easily change. Fernando is a small island, and American Airlines (my go-to airline) doesn't have flights to DFW every day during the holidays. Thus, if we don't make it to Fernando by the 22nd, then I won't fly out until Christmas Day, arriving in Texas on the 26th.
Lastly, I've been asked for proof of life, so here it is.
